(BLOG) Studio Emotions
We’ve all heard about Britney Spears and JR Rotem, Lil Kim and Scott Storch, etc. Producers who end up dating artists that they are working with (Storch has done it quite a few times, with the ultimate result being unsavory). I think Mary J Blige’s husband is a producer that she met working on an album. I wonder how often it happens in studios all over the world–when you’re working in the intimate setting of a studio, and you’re a producer doing his job right, you should be making your artist feel comfortable, confident, secure, creative, relaxed, inspired, passionate, all the traits that a good artist wants to show. In this light, I could see how its easy for an artist to develop feelings for this appreciation from a producer; keep in mind that artists tend to be highly insecure about their talents (even if they don’t show it) and are seeking acceptance on all levels. Add in the element of the opposite sex and attractive people and its a formula for emotional bonding. Thats why a great producer can create an aura of acceptance and creativity in any studio anywhere, be it a computer in an apartment with Cool Edit Pro and a Sure sm57, or a Neumann on a PT HD Rig. You create it through your relationship with the artist. You become a coach, providing encouragement, structure, and goals. Its kind of like a marriage: two partners motivating eachother to do the best in their different responsibilities so that the end result is the most enjoyable. The best part of it all is that if the producer succeeds in creating the appropriate ambience based on the particular artist, the music has a great chance of being the best it could be, reaching unexpected plateus because the artist and producer are both open minded and willing to expand. Are you doing your job right?

Liveoffbeats.com Soleternity Interview
Much love, respect, and encouragement due to all of the aspiring and up & coming Producers. As Postman says, we all started from the same place. Anyone can make it in this business if they can balance talent with network. And a litttttle bit of luck.
In what one man commented was a “historic moment within the realm of music production online,” I was honored and priviledged to be interviewed by Postman for Liveoffbeats.com yesterday. Although we were only scheduled to go for an hour, it turns out we went for about 90 minutes, with every minute full of valuable information. Postman is a seasoned and successful veteran of marketing and production, specifically for Hip Hop/R&B producers. Postman has a great book for sale that I’ve mentioned before on this blog, I suggest anyone who wants to learn about marketing their production check out this book. You can find it at Liveoffbeats.com.
