Just one new beat this time. I called it “Grandeur Dreams.” You can listen to it on soundclick, click here to play or download it.
Coming up with this track, I was playing around with Piano Melodies. I came up with this little two bar melody, I had been hearing it in my head for a few hours, it was driving me crazy so I had to put it down. I found the right chords and notes within about 30 seconds, except I couldn’t decide what chord to end the loop on. I finally decided on something, and recorded in the melody using the Motif’s “Jazz Piano.” I mixed and tweaked it, and just let it sit on loop. Some other work came up and I had to leave it alone for the rest of the day. The next day I came back to it after thinking about it all night, and I had no idea where to take it. Should I treat it like a sample and flip it into a Hip Hop Track, should I give it a soulful feel, what type of drums, etc. I finally started chipping away at it, and it took on a life of its own. It definitely falls in the R&B category, but its not out of reason to consider a hip hop track on here. The thing is, the track is very melody-driven. So any rapping over top would have to really compliment the melodies. My favorite touches to add were the EPs and the bass. The bassline takes this thing back to 1976.

Back in ‘02-’03, beat battles were popular. I was in at least 10 different tournaments hosted at various online communities over this period of time. It helped me get my name out there big time after I won my first, and it got me a ton of plays on mp3.com and soundclick.com.
